Collection: Maharaja and Maharani

Maharaja and Maharani

The Maharaja and Maharani Collection takes inspiration from India and the traditional craftsmanship of hand-painted miniatures. Combining contemporary style with classical craftsmanship the collection reflects the peacock dressing of the Maharaja and Maharani.

Working with a group of Indian miniature painters, Sister Loves have selected a series of portrait images, which then have been set into Sterling Silver pendants. Each miniature has an individual personality, creating unique pieces to be collected and treasured.

A History of Mughal

Indian Mughal painting developed and prospered under the rule of the Mughal Emperors Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan, during the 16th Century.
Taking the form of intricate miniature portraits, Mughal paintings embraced bright, jewel-like colour and fine detailing. Each miniature is embellished so that the portrait becomes an icon, rather than a realistic depiction.
A canon of characters exist, which have been maintained throughout the history of the art form, however each portrait is unique as they reflect the idiosyncrasies of the craftsman who created them.
